ASUS RT-N56U Firmware Download. Introducing the new router that ASUS has released his name is RT-N56U and is a worthy successor to incombustible RT-N16. But unlike the latter, alternative firmwares absent due to chipset used as you will see below, it\’s a shame that such a good hardware, it is managed by a firmware that leaves much to be desired.

2 USB ports for connecting external devices such as USB flash drives or USB hard drives. Wireless: has 5 antennas, 2 3.8dBi antennas for the 2.4GHz band and 3 antennas 5.1dBi for the 5GHz band. Ethernet: Realtek RTL8367M. Supports 802.3x standard. Each port supports full-duplex mode and half duplex 10/100/1000 10/100 mode. Supports Spanning Tree and MAC access control and many other features. CPU: 500MHz RALINK RT3662F with Harware by NAT included, which improves concurrent connections supported by the router. RAM: 031 SAMSUNG K4T1G1640E-HCF7 GW6X43A4. It has 128MB of RAM. Flash: P102641 MXIC MX29LV640EBTI-70G 3D907800. It has 8MB of Flash memory to load the firmware. The power supply delivers current intensity 1,58Amp to 19V or 12V 2Amp making consumption between 24W and 31W.
Incorporated into the firmware: DLNA: This router incorporates Twonky DLNA server, which allows our local network share music, photos and videos stored on any USB drive us to connect to one of the USB ports on the router. FTP server and Samba server hard drives and flash drives. Advanced QoS easy setup with many default rules.
Begin to shape the initials RT-N56U. The router comes in a box almost entirely white with the router in black. Identifies the key features like Wi-Fi is N, is compatible with Windows 7, has an energy saving because it disables the LAN ports are not being used so that the consumption decreases. It also has simultaneous dual-band, is able to locate the wireless client and set your location to \”send\” the maximum possible signal on the part of test you will see how the Wireless behaves. It also promises up to 300,000 concurrent connections. we\’ll see if it\’s true. In the back we see different features of the router and comparison with other computers that do not have the same features as this one. Also on the sides of the box are the main features. The router comes with a power adapter rather long, which is appreciated if our ideal location is far from an outlet. It also brings up CAT6 network cable (not cylindrical as usual). On the side is where you will find all connections from left to right, we see the power connector, Gigabit WAN input, 4 inputs Gigabit LAN, the reset button and 2 USB 2.0.
The RJ-45 inputs have two LEDs, green indicates that the connection is 100Mbps, and yellow-orange indicates that speed is Gigabit (1000Mbps). From a top view, we can see that the router is fine in his right hand and wider on the left side (where all the connections). The WPS button detail, when pushed, will connect us to the Wireless network without putting the whole key, or at least only have to put a PIN number.
The router with the adapter standing on the table, you can see the LED on the right, indicating the different states of POWER, network 2.4GHz, 5GHz, internet connectivity and USB. Team Server: Server vsftpd running on an i5 760 in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, the only limitation is the LAN router to be Fast Ethernet. Teams customers: will connect from different locations with different wireless cards.
Download Firmware Router ASUS RT-N56U. Configuring Wireless Router ASUS RT-N56U: Logging in as administrator we\’ve set up WPA2-PSK with AES encryption, then have fixed the channel width to 20 / 40MHz and we have put in UPPER because there are fewer channels neighbors and WMM enabled (ENABLED). We made four measurements at each location with each of the cards Wireless transferring one file via FTP (passive and locally mode):
– The first test we did in the room next to the router through a wall in a straight line, 3 meters away and about the same height as the router.
– The second test we have made on the floor below, coinciding exactly with the vertical to the router (just below).
– The third test, and \”harder\” for all devices, has been in the cellar, about 10 meters through three thick walls (if we consider the straight line with the router).
Performance WLAN-> WLAN
Now that we have seen the capabilities of the router, we will try to drown transferring files between two computers connected by wireless, there are routers that maintain the type and others much lower transfer. Given that the wireless radius is half-duplex, speed descend with respect to transfer files over LAN and wired, to be exact, will drop by half or more. 2.4GHz band on both computers, the result of the transfer is 3.1MB / s. The rate has dropped dramatically compared with the results we have obtained above. Intel 2.4GHz band in 5100 and the 5GHz band Intel 4965AGN (is the best configuration because it is where we get more performance when we did the test LAN-> WLAN), the result of the transfer is 6,7MB / s. The speed is more than double that if we do it in the same band, but still quite low compare to the LAN-WLAN test. The 2.4GHz band performs perfectly in any environment, achieving great transfer speeds and great coverage in all places where we\’ve tried there has been no falls, no cuts, just stable and powerful. The 5GHz band is good for long distances or whether there are many obstacles or you have to walk through walls (a device has not even been able to connect in the attic). It is only useful in rooms that are very close to the access point, especially if we will draw match will transfer from WLAN to WLAN because in many cases the 2.4GHz band will give better results than the 5GHz band.
USB: NAS & FTP
Tests are both Samba and FTP client with LOCAL form, has been used for testing Ubuntu 10.04LTS with Samba and Filezilla FTP client program. We have connected the computer cable to the router to avoid problems with Wi-Fi, this way we obtain the maximum possible transfer.
NAS: Transfer Reading: 11,3MB / s Write: 3.5MB / s
FTP: transfer: Reading: 15,5MB / s Write: 2.3MB / s
USB Conclusion. The reading speed of USB of this router is simply spectacular, all routers we tested is best with a lot of difference. The writing speed is low, like all the other teams we\’ve tested such as the Linksys E3000.
